Highlights Orienteering is a sport that challenges both mind and body. Participants are given a topographical map, usually a specially prepared orienteering map, which they use to find control points. Originally it was used as a training exercise in land navigation for military officers, orienteering has developed many variations. On foot orienteering serves as a point to point race against a clock or against other teams and requires strategic thinking and spontaneous decision making in order to visit the most checkpoints in the shortest amount of time.
