Kinder Scout Adventure - Guided Walk

  • Location Derbyshire
  • Price from £49.00

Highlights

Probably one of the most interesting routes on Kinder Scout. Starting from Edale we walk through the lovely village of Edale and across fields before heading fairly steeply up towards Grindslow Knoll. From here the route we take is a stunning walk past many of Kinder's key features including the Wool Pack rocks and Pym Chair until we reach one of Kinder Scout's 3 trig points at Kinder Low.
We then continue on to the famous Kinder Downfall which changes its appearance depending on the weather from a lovely sunny lunch spot by a trickling stream to an almost perpetual waterfall on windy days when the water blows upwards as in the photo!
Next we walk into the notoriously complex "groughs and hags" that cover the plateau. This is an area of deep winding channels through the peat, the sides of which are often several metres high making navigation extremely difficult. The terrain will obviously be rough as we cross this area for approximately 2km and involve the crossing of several of these channels and working our way around some areas of bog. Having reached the main path once again we follow the southern edge back to Edale.

Itinerary

The walk is partly on good footpaths but partly on very rough pathless terrain and includes one fairly steep ascent of about 350m/1150ft. At any time of year there are likely to be some muddy sections and the crossing of the plateau will almost certainly encounter areas of peat bogs and water. You need be reasonably physically fit and have some experience in walking in rough terrain. Walking boots providing good ankle protection are definitely required and gaiters highly recommended.
All our events are approved as "Good to Go" Covid-secure by Visit England.
Please note: All group walks require a minimum of 2 people booked to go ahead. If by chance you are booking for 1 person and nobody else books then you would be offered the choice of a full refund or to switch to an alternative date.
If you'd like to discuss the walk or other activities before booking please contact us.
Thanks, Paul Smith, myGuidedWalks.

Alterations
We will always do their best to accommodate reasonable requests to alter your booking such as a change to the names of clients included in your booking or, in the case of private bookings, a change to the itinerary. If there are associated costs relating to such a change we reserve the right to discuss these costs with you and make an additional charge for them if the alteration is agreed.
For outdoor astronomy and astrophotography activities: we have a very flexible approach to bookings as described on our website section on Flexibility & Weather. Your astronomy/astrophotography outdoor bookings are valid for 1 year from the time of purchase. You can book a date and then reschedule if the weather isn't suitable. You can select a provisional date (if not already booked), or if you prefer you can just indicate roughly when you'd like it to take place. I will regularly review weather forecasts, and keep you updated in the week leading up to your booking. There is also an option in the booking form to be added to a group where I will post about forecasts for clear skies and key astronomical events so you could consider bringing your booking forward. A final decision to go ahead will usually be taken within 24hrs of the booked date, although I'll take account of the level of flexibility you have, travel plans etc.

Cancellations
We strongly recommend clients consider taking out appropriate cancellation insurance. In the event of a booking being cancelled by a client, then we will refund the client as follows:
  • Cancellations more than 30 days from the start of the activity will receive a 75% refund, excluding any additional costs incurred by myGuidedWalks for accommodation we have booked, or the option to change to an alternative date that we can accommodate.
  • Cancellations 30 days or less from the start of the activity will not be refunded however for astronomy/astrophotography outdoor activities our flexible approach to rescheduling due to the weather still applies.

In exceptional circumstances myGuidedWalks may need to cancel your booking. If myGuidedWalks cancel your booking you will have a choice of receiving a full refund or changing your booking to an alternative date or activity of equal value. If you prefer to change to an activity of a higher value you will be required to pay the difference. We will not be liable for any additional costs or expenses incurred as a result of such a cancellation.
Open group walks operate with a minimum number of 2 participants. If you are the only person to book on a walk or course we may contact you to offer you the choice of swapping to an alternative date or activity or to receive a full refund. Navigation Training courses, private and other bespoke activities have no minimum numbers.
